The 29-year-old defeated the 11th-seeded Norwegian 6-4, 6-2, 7-6 in the first round of the men's singles at the grass-court Grand Slam tournament in London.

Hurkacz, currently ranked No. 94 by the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP), will next face Austria's Sebastian Ofner.

Monday's match marked Hurkacz's first appearance at Wimbledon since suffering a serious knee injury during his second-round match against France's Arthur Fils in 2024.

The injury sidelined him for months and disrupted his progress. Two years ago, Hurkacz arrived at Wimbledon as the seventh seed. He now returns barely making the top 100.

On the women's side, all three Polish players in action on Monday were eliminated in the first round.

Maja Chwalińska lost 6-2, 5-7, 2-6 to Thailand's Mananchaya Sawangkaew, a qualifier ranked No. 161.

Magdalena Fręch fell 6-7, 4-6 to 19th-seeded Anna Kalinskaya, while world No. 58 Magda Linette lost 5-7, 4-6 to fifth-seeded Mirra Andreeva.

On Tuesday, Polish world No. 3 Iga Świątek will begin her bid to defend the Wimbledon women's singles title against American Taylor Townsend.

In the men's draw, Poland's Kamil Majchrzak will face 30th-seeded Alejandro Tabilo of Chile in a rematch of their first-round meeting at this year's French Open, won by Tabilo.

Majchrzak arrives at Wimbledon after capturing his first ATP title in 's-Hertogenbosch, where he defeated three top-10 opponents.
